Lia Pale - Woman & I
Born in Wels, Austria, Lia Pale has become one of the most distinctive genre-defying voices of her generation. In collaboration with Swiss composer and arranger mathias rüegg, she developed a unique sound between the tradition of the art song and jazz. Her widely acclaimed reinterpretation of Franz Schubert’s Winterreise laid the foundation for this artistic path.
With Woman & I, Lia Pale releases her new album at the end of May 2026 – and for the first time turns fully to her own music. In the emptiness of a new beginning, in a sense of free fall, songwriting emerged – not as a plan, but as an anchor - a way of returning to herself. With a packed old Saab and a Wurlitzer in the back seat, Lia Pale set off for Amsterdam – a journey into the unknown from which Woman & I eventually emerged.
The songs developed between Wels, Vienna, Amsterdam, and The Hague. Some parts were recorded in The Hague, others live on the stage of Vienna’s Porgy & Bess, together with Hue Blanes, Miloš Čolović, and Ingrid Oberkanins. Additional layers – flute choirs, backing vocals, and instrumental colors – were added later in a small quiet room downtown Vienna, piece by piece, layer by layer.
Lia Pale - Woman & I
RD 29.05.2026 - on Vinyl, CD and digitally
Musically, Lia Pale continues to explore new horizons. The voice that once primarily interpreted now rests in its own sound. Jazz harmonies meet minimalist pop structures. Clear melodic lines, plenty of space and a voice that tells stories directly characterise the sound of the tracks. The music moves freely between jazz, pop and songwriting, unfolding a warm, lively intimacy – from duet moments to collective improvisations.
Woman & I is not a reinvention.
It is not about becoming someone else – but about coming home to oneself
