Time and Gravity
On her debut album, "Time and Gravity", Georgian pianist Irma Gigani focuses on Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Sonatas Nos. 2, 4, and 8. For the artist, time and gravity serve as symbols of human existence: time as an unstoppable flow between memory, hope, and the present; gravity as an invisible force of attraction and energy. In Prokofiev’s multifaceted musical language, she finds the ideal space to explore these ideas—navigating the space between personal expression and the great themes of the human condition, between freedom and constraint, love and pain, beauty and the abyss.
Born in Tbilisi in 1996, Irma Gigani is among the most remarkable pianists of her generation. Even as a child, she won international competitions and performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras in Europe and Israel. Concert engagements have taken her to France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Romania, among other places. She has performed at the Vienna Musikverein, the Salle Cortot in Paris, and (with Bach’s Goldberg Variations) at the Konzerthaus Berlin, in Vatican City in Rome, and many other venues. From 2019 to 2022, she completed her master’s degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the class of Prof. Stefan Arnold and, after receiving her degree, added two additional years of postgraduate study, also under Prof. Arnold. She has won international prizes and awards in Georgia, Denmark, and France, including First Prize and two special prizes at the International Bechstein-Bruckner Competition in Linz, Austria. With "Time and Gravity", she now presents a musical calling card that is as personal as it is compelling.

For me - the palette of those three sonatas is a given space, including a human being with its emotional package and the given system....My thankfulness towards that given space in music is endless. Irma Gigani
